About

Growing up his family had a pump organ in the living room, which he taught himself to play the opening phrase from Europe's famous "The Final Countdown" on–at merely seven years old. After a couple of years, it became clear to his parents that this new interest of his was here to stay, and so he received his first-ever synth for Christmas, a Casio CZ-1000 to be precise, which he still owns and plays to date. From then on, Pär Hagström started recording sounds and melodies onto tape recorders and eventually onto hard drives. Hagström has produced, composed, and recorded music for over a decade now and, with a background in theatre, is often hired to compose theatre plays such as the ones he made with director Christoph Diem in Germany. His love of music has taken him from the nature-rich Swedish small-town of Huskvarna, where he was born and raised, to many different corners of the world such as other parts of Europe and the U.S. He discovered the roaring world of synth sounds during the 80s at seven years old and has since been influenced by a variety of different music from 70's hard rock to death metal to gospel and electronic. Hagström’s combined interests in the arts, philosophy, travel and vintage analog gear render him an old soul, which can be heard in his gritty, organic, and human sound. Beauty doesn't equal perfection in his world, in fact, recordings with flaws are his favorite and are precisely what makes his music so distinct and loved. Although the studio is his natural habitat these days, live performances are his first love, which stems from his upbringing in church as the grandson of a Baptist preacher. Attending church did not only spark an interest in existential matters but for grand narratives and Black gospel music, too, which we undoubtedly can hear traces of in his music. He considers himself a vocalist when given the chance to perform live and aims to make more of his own original lyrical music in the near future. "Out with the old and in with the new" the saying goes, but Hagström looks at it differently. To him, the old is the new, new. Rare vintage instruments are consistently included in his production such as a mechanical keyboard glockenspiel, The Hohner Cembalet, or a Roland CR-78 drum machine, just to name a few. Pär Hagström is the man behind several other projects such as Da Sein, Polar Nights, Ave Air, and more. When he isn't busy making a work of art, he also runs Skeppet GBG, a music production hub, live venue, and restaurant, with his partner and colleague Jenny Roos in Gothenburg, Sweden.
