Lewis Hamilton, lawyers, and Latin Grammys: A chat with Lukas Nathanson
Lukas Nathanson, AKA Lukas Got Lucky, is a Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter. Learn about his work with unlikely stars, his Grammy recognition, and his Epidemic Sound journey.

Perhaps the name “Lukas Got Lucky” rings a few bells. If you’ve heard his music with Epidemic Sound, you might recognize his way around a beat, the slickness with which his work’s produced, the strength of those hooks.
That’s because Lukas Got Lucky is the alias of Sweden’s own Lukas Nathanson. The Stockholm local has been nominated for the US Grammys twice, once for their Latin counterpart, and has collabed with everyone from Akon to Justin Bieber.
With the 67th Annual Grammy Awards around the corner, we chatted to Lukas about his relationship with the ceremony, his career with Epidemic Sound, and more.

Can you tell us more about your previous Grammy nominations? What did that recognition mean to you, and how did your journey as a producer look up until that point?
Lukas Nathanson: “The first time I was nominated for an award was for the Latin Grammys, after collaborating with the incredible Natalia Jimenez on her second album, Creo en Mí. It was such a surreal experience being in Vegas, surrounded by so much talent.
“Receiving that kind of recognition means a lot — it not only gives you the energy to keep doing your thing, but also opens doors if you take advantage of it. Funnily enough, being nominated was never something I set out for. It came as a complete surprise, especially since I found my way into the Latin music scene by accident!
“I’ve been working in this industry since I was sixteen, doing so many different things. And that’s what I love most about it: it can literally take you anywhere if you let it.”
You’ve worked with many inspiring artists and producers in the past, including Kenneth Coby and Akon. What’s been your most exciting collaboration so far?
LN: “I love seeing talented people, who’ve worked tirelessly, finally get the recognition and achieve the careers they’ve always dreamed of. I had the privilege of working with Muni Long, Lucky Daye, and Meghan Trainor long before they became the stars they are today. Their talent was so undeniable, I always knew it was just a matter of time before they made it big.
“I also worked on music with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton. I had no idea who he was until our third session, when a friend told me he’s one of the biggest race-car drivers in the world! Since I’d never watched F1, I couldn’t help but laugh. For him, music was more of a hobby, but honestly, he has a surprisingly good voice!”

What’s your favorite part about working with Epidemic Sound?
LN: “I really enjoy working with Epidemic Sound because the results are almost immediate — I get to see the impact of a track shortly after it’s released. Another thing I appreciate is the opportunity to work across so many different genres, which keeps things exciting and creatively fulfilling.
“It’s also been, by far, the most stable and reliable source of income for me. Compare that to the challenges of dealing with major labels, where I’ve even had to hire a lawyer just to get paid!
“Another thing I really enjoy about working with Epidemic Sound is seeing my music being used in YouTube videos and ads — it’s incredibly rewarding. I love creating music that evokes a specific feeling and complements the stories people are telling through their videos.”
